Abstract

Background and Aim: Nowadays different leadership styles determine the efficiency and effectiveness of staff in different conditions and sectors. The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between leadership styles of head nurses with continuing activities of nurses in specialized units in selected hospitals of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 2009. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, data was collected through two standard questionnaires of leadership styles and staff tendency to remain. Data was analyzed by statistic descriptive techniques. Results: Findings showed that the scores of authoritative, charitable, participatory and consultative style were 0.12, -0.21, 0.24 and 0.998, respectively. The total score of staff tendency to remain was 2.4. ‍Conclusion: The positive correlation between participative style of head nurses and staff tendency to remain showed that this can be an appropriate way which leads to improvement of management of nursing unites in our country.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Bullying is the threatening factor in hospital environment for nurses’ health. Current research was administered with the aim of studying the correlation between bullying in hospital with psychosomatic complaint and job related affect among nurses. Materials and Methods: Research method was correlation and statistical population was the nurses of Yazd hospitals. Among them 250 persons were selected using accessible sampling method. Data gathering instruments were the future made questionnaires, which reliability and validity of them were verified, including bullying questionnaire, psychosomatic complaint questionnaire and job related affect questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Results: Results revealed there is significant correlation between bullying (contempt and despising, angry and revengefulness, neglect, verbal persecution, threatening and unconventional work stress) with psychosomatic complaint and negative job related affect, and there is negative significant relationship between contempt and despising, angry and revengefulness, verbal persecution and unconventional work stress with positive job related affect. Moreover, the results of regression analysis revealed, unconventional work stress have significant predictive power for prediction of psychosomatic complaint, contempt and despising, threatening and unconventional work stress have significant predictive power for prediction of negative job related affect. ‍Conclusion: The results of current research showed that bullying could result in psychosomatic complaint and negative job related affect among women nurses. Hospital managers should consider these important factors.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Nursing is an occupation that deals with the stress of the workplace and due to busy working hours are at risk of burnout and this agent can affect lifestyle. The purpose of this study was relationship investigation burnout job with Health Promotion Lifestyle in nurse's occupation in Ilam province hospitals in 2015.

Materials and Methods: This study is descriptive-analytic and cross-sectional, which carried out on 80 nurses in Ilam province. Data collection tool was job stress questionnaire burnout job by Meslash and Health Promotion Lifestyle questionnaire (HPLQ). Validity and reliability of this questionnaire was approved in previous studies. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS (version 20), Pearson correlation test, scatter plot, t-independent and tukey test.

Results: The results showed between burnout job and health promotion lifestyle components including stress management (r=-0.71, p-value=0.01), interpersonal relationship (r=-0.58, p-value=0.03), self-actualization (r=-0.63, p-value=0.03), health responsibility (r=-0.71, p-value=0.01), nutrition (r=-0.36, p-value=0.04), exercise and body (r=-0.29, p-value=0.05) and total score health promotion lifestyle (r=-0.67, p-value=0.02) was a reverse correlation. Tukey test results showed a non-significant difference in the average final score of health promoting lifestyles with age difference groups. Also, Tukey test results showed in people with age above 35 years of age there is a direct significant relationship between age with burnout.

Conclusion: The results indicate that burnout job is effective on lifestyle health promotion and mental and physical health and it is necessary in presented protective strategy and stress control management for increased levels of health promotion lifestyle and prevention or alleviate longitudinal negative consequences of burnout job.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Medication errors caused by healthcare providers can seriously threat patients’ health. The first step to present strategies for preventing such incidents is to assess the causes of errors and no reporting. The purpose of this study was to investigate the causes of medication errors and lack of their reporting from the perspective of nurses working in hospital.

Materials and Methods: This study was cross-sectional and conducted in 2015, and nurses community in Shahid Beheshti hospitals were studied.  A sample of 200 nurses selected according to the formula of the sample size and survey instruments and consisted of three parts: demographic information, types of medication errors and barriers to reporting medication errors. Test-retest test was equal to 86%.

Results: The average age of nurses participating in this study was 39.8 years old and the average work experience of nurses was 9.9 years. Most barriers related to medical error reporting process in nurses lack of importance of reporting from a nurses perspective with an average 2.8 and nurse forgets to report medication errors with an average 2.6 the lowest impact. The administrative barriers for under-reporting of medication errors, the focus of nursing managers the wrong person with an average 3.3 and inappropriate reaction of nurse managers with an average 3.1 the highest and lowest, respectively.

Conclusion: Manager’s actions to promote safety, giving feedback in response to errors, creating an appropriate context for reporting accidents and exchange of patient information in the studied hospitals seems to be crucial.
